Happy Friday!
I wanted to reflect today on the importance of flexibility when working towards your goals and ambitions.
When I think about some the most effective and successful people I have worked with and coached over the years, many of them have the following attributes and skills in common. They have developed and continually honed these skills and attributes in order to achieve their goals.
✔️ They are agile
✔️ They embrace change
✔️ They use mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve
✔️ They respond positively and proactively to new information and trends
✔️ They work effectively and efficiently to stay ahead
✔️ They have a growth mind-set
✔️ They are open to others' ideas/opinions
✔️ They ask for feedback and apply it
✔️ They know who to go to for help and support during change
✔️ They focus on what they can control
✔️ They deal with ambiguity effectively
✔️ They focus on and create solutions as opposed to problems
✔️ They listen
✔️ They surround themselves with people who lift them higher
I have a current personal example of exercising flexibility to reach a goal - I experienced sudden bad knee pain half-way through my long run last weekend and had to stop my run – with less than 6 weeks to go before the marathon I felt panic and was concerned.
However, I quickly visualised my circle of control, contacted my physio and also my physio friend who gave me excellent advice, reassurance and treatment. This week I've adapted and flexed my training by listening to my physio and my body. I’ve run twice on a treadmill and will be embarking on a 17 mile treadmill run on Sunday (whilst watching a series of something)!
Not quite the route I had anticipated this week but it will still take me to my end goal of completing the marathon for Samaritans.
It reminds me that progress and is not always a linear process and the importance of using your resilience to help you through.
Any suggestions for series on Netflix/Prime/TV would be great for Sunday 😆 thank you again for your on-going support for this incredible charity too. We are £322 away from £3000. I am so thankful. 💚
Have a super weekend ahead and a huge shout out to Suzie Flohr - my amazing sports therapist who is just wonderful and supremely talented.
