Happy Friday folks!
3 years on and I still use and refer clients to this brilliant TED talk – it’s one of my favourites and is definitely worth a watch with a cuppa. In every workplace, there are three basic kinds of people: givers, takers and matchers. *Takers – What can you do for me? *Matchers – If I do this for you, will you do that for me? *Givers – What can I do for you? I am lucky that I work with a lot of clients who are fundamental 'givers' or want to develop to give more – the simplest things can make you a giver - right down to grabbing someone a coffee and surprising them with it, offering to help someone who is under pressure, pro-actively connecting people because you know it will help both parties or going above and beyond for someone because you simply want to. This week I have come across some great examples of givers – one particular person is Karen Heap who I met with this week. The culture she creates for herself and her business is giving, sharing, and supporting others. She’s also someone who is lovely to be around. Adam Grant breaks down these three types and offers simple strategies to promote a culture of generosity - creating a culture of giving matters and makes a big difference.
