Happy Friday and Happy Valentines ❤️
I love this powerful image from Liz and Mollie.
A reminder for us all to ‘measure our own success with our own ruler’.
This visual reminds me of the power of coaching and truly listening, questioning and empowering people visualise and create their goals, discover their own solutions and establish their success measures. When clients work with me through the Arch inspire 5C’s programme, in the Creation session we explore, clarify, crystalise and capture their specific success measures (not someone else’s measures, their success measures).
I have been coaching for near to 20 years now and in all those years I have never come across anybody who has the exact same goals, desires, motivations and ambitions as someone else. What I often see are other people projecting their views and opinions of others' success and offering all sorts of advice on what others ‘should do’…
The following illustrates the importance using our own ruler.
Example Success Measures:
📏 I want to work X more hours a week or I want to spend Y hours a week
volunteering
📏 I want to commit to the gym X times a week or I want to commit to relaxation
activities Y hours a week
📏 I want to grow my business by X or I want to scale my business down by Y to
enable me to focus on a new venture
📏 I want to create X hours a week for me or I want to create Y hours a week for my
partner/my family
📏 I want to take responsibility to do X or I want to empower my team to take
responsibility for Y
📏 I want to invest X to buy that property or I want to invest Y to travel
The reality is success in life means different things for us all. It’s crucial that we measure ours with our own ruler.
